"# Ξανάνοιξε για πολλοστή φορά το θέμα της διδασκαλίας των αρχαίων ελληνικών. Το άνοιξε ο δάσκαλος τόσων γενεών Εμμανουήλ Κριαράς έχοντας σε αυτή την ηλικία το κουράγιο να μάχεται ακόμα. Ήδη δημοσιεύτηκαν αντιρρήσεις. Είναι όλες ξεπερασμένες, άστοχες και αβάσιμες.

# Έχουν από δεκαετίες τεκμηριώσει γλωσσολόγοι (της Θεσσαλονίκης) ότι δεν πρέπει να διδάσκονται αρχαία ελληνικά στους μαθητές πριν από τα 16 χρόνια, επειδή τότε κατακτάται ο πλήρης έλεγχος της συντακτικής δομής των επίσημων μορφών της ομιλούμενης γλώσσας.

# Μαθαίνουν ωστόσο π.χ. αγγλικά στο δημοτικό, λέγεται. Χωρίς τη γνώση των αρχαίων, λέγεται, δεν μπορούν τα παιδιά να μάθουν «σωστά» τη σύγχρονη ελληνική. Αυτά και άλλα επιχειρήματα πηγάζουν όλα από ένα ιδεολόγημα που περιγράφει την ελληνική μία, «ενιαία και αδιάσπαστη επί σαράντα αιώνες».

# Στοιχειώδεις γνώσεις αρκούν για να ξέρει κανείς ότι στην ιστορία της γλώσσας υπήρξαν πολλά γλωσσικά συστήματα, με πολύ διαφορετική το καθένα σύνταξη έως σήμερα. Έχουν χιλιοειπωθεί τα επιχειρήματα. Η διδασκαλία που αναμιγνύει συντάξεις διαφορετικές από παλιότερα συστήματα εμποδίζει την κατάκτηση της σύνταξης των σύγχρονων, λόγιων ποικιλιών της ελληνικής. Ο αντίλογος περιέχει μόνο ρητορείες. Σχεδόν δεν έχει κανείς τι να προσθέσει. Ίσως λύση θα ήταν το ακόλουθο πείραμα.

# Ας διαβάσουν οι αναγνώστες μερικά κείμενα, π.χ. του Εμμανουήλ Κριαρά, με παράλληλα μερικά κείμενα ενός που υποστηρίζει να διδάσκουμε στα μικρά παιδιά την ελληνική των «σαράντα αιώνων». Και ας συγκρίνει ιδίως τη σύνταξη που προκύπτει από τον γλωσσικό «πλούτο» της «διαχρονικής ελληνικής».

Ας προσέξει τίνος από τους δύο τα κείμενα περιέχουν ακυριολεξίες, ασάφειες, ταυτολογίες, σολοικισμούς και κακοσυνταξίες, λεξιθηρία, κακόζηλο ύφος, πλατειασμούς και περιττολογίες.

# Όποιος κάνει το πείραμα, είναι σχεδόν βέβαιο ποια θέση θα πάρει στο ξεπερασμένο δίλημμα, αν πρέπει ή δεν πρέπει να διδάσκεται η αρχαία γλώσσα στο γυμνάσιο και τι είδους γλωσσική διδασκαλία στο σχολείο θα κάνει τα παιδιά μας επαρκείς γνώστες των επίσημων και λόγιων ποικιλιών της γλώσσας τους, ώστε να μάθουν στη συνέχεια μεταξύ πολλών άλλων και αρχαία ελληνικά".
